Her Campus at JMU Editing Work

In the interest of preserving the privacy of the Her Campus writers I edit for, I have opted to include a brief explanation of my editing process rather than the original and edited articles.

For every Her Campus article I edit, I cross-reference the official Her Campus style guide throughout the editing process. I complete three rounds of edits on each article; one round with an eye for grammatical/spelling errors; a second round to increase clarity on the sentence level while ensuring I don't deviate too much from the writer's unique voice; and a third round where I read the piece aloud to ensure it flows well and is easily readable. If I find myself making many changes to an article or needing clarification about intention, I will open a dialogue with the writer and collaborate with them on further edits as needed.
